Music For “Starcock”

Music For “Starcock”, a Mabou Mines theater piece by Fred Neumann, text by Apple Vail. This piece showed what could be done with slide projections in a small theater. State of the art at the time, the photo slides were paintings by Apple Veil with text by her as well. She was an artist from Florida that Fred and his wife Honora knew at the time. The work was like children’s book drawings with a child-like story. I was thinking of the music that was written for cartoons, the Warner Brothers cartoons especially (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck). The problem was that I could not have the music synced so precisely like it is in those cartoons, so I had to just use instinct.

Recorded by LB Dallas at the Mabou Mines office space with the wonderful Chris DeBlasio who hired all the musicians and conducted them as well produced the recording.

These are the very short music cues I wrote. I was thinking of the cartoon music mostly the Warner Bros Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and how that music came across and then tried to add my own take on it.
